Allan Lyons Demands Tougher Action on Anti-Social Behaviour
Reform UK candidate Allan Lyons has demanded stronger action to tackle anti-social behaviour across parts of the Rutherglen constituency, following concerns raised by residents in Rutherglen and Cambuslang about low-level disorder and incidents that are making community life more difficult.
South Lanarkshire Council has acknowledged anti-social behaviour as a priority issue, with Police Scotland's Lanarkshire Division also identifying it as a key community concern alongside hate crime. Allan says that while he welcomes the recognition of the problem, action needs to be faster and more robust.
'People in Rutherglen and Cambuslang work hard, pay their taxes, and deserve to live in safe and peaceful communities,' said Allan. 'Anti-social behaviour is not something to be managed — it needs to be tackled head-on, with visible policing and real consequences for those responsible.'
Allan is calling for increased Police Scotland resources in the constituency, faster enforcement action for persistent offenders, and greater use of civil orders to protect communities from the most disruptive behaviour.
Reform UK is committed to restoring visible community policing and ensuring that officers are focused on the communities they serve, rather than being tied up in bureaucracy. 'Safe communities are not a luxury — they are a basic right. I will fight for that right at Holyrood,' he added.
