Allan Lyons Slams NHS Lanarkshire Waiting Times Affecting Rutherglen Residents

Reform UK candidate Allan Lyons has demanded urgent action to tackle NHS Lanarkshire waiting times, which continue to leave patients across the Rutherglen constituency facing unacceptable delays for specialist care and routine procedures.

Residents across Rutherglen and Cambuslang have been telling Allan about the difficulties they face in accessing NHS care — from long waits for GP appointments to months-long delays for specialist referrals in areas including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and mental health services.

'The NHS is one of the most precious things we have as a society,' said Allan. 'But in Rutherglen and Cambuslang, people are being let down by a system that is underfunded, over-managed, and struggling to cope. That has to change.'

Allan is calling for NHS Lanarkshire to receive additional resources to clear waiting list backlogs, for management to be streamlined so that more funding reaches frontline services, and for a genuine workforce strategy that addresses recruitment and retention challenges.

Reform UK's position is that the NHS budget must be protected and prioritised, with a ruthless focus on cutting waste and ensuring every pound reaches the patient. 'People in Rutherglen deserve timely healthcare. I will fight every day at Holyrood to make sure they get it,' he added.
